Chatsworth Cinema

Residential

The Brief

For this project we were asked to upgrade the client’s existing projection cinema to enable them to experience a real feeling of being ‘at the cinema’. The clients had issues with the way their existing cinema was controlled; hence they hardly ever used it. They were looking for a larger screen and improved image quality with matching audio. They needed a control system that could be used by the entire family and wanted the existing cinema to be transformed from a plain and uninspiring room to one with a dramatically improved look and feel. They had their own ideas and had instructed an interior designer to work with us on the project. The cinema room had a large sociable bar / entertaining area adjacent, which could be accessed through full height bi-folding doors.

The Proposal

Having carried out a detailed survey of the existing room and equipment, we provided two options. As requested by the client, both options had discreet speaker locations hidden behind the screen. The audio system comprised of a Triad silver speaker 7.2 system with Anthem processing and amplification which ensured there were sufficient sound levels to impress the client.

The Technology

Using a 110” fixed frame acoustic screen from Screen Research with built-in speakers and subwoofers, we located the equipment into a wall cavity that could be hidden from view. The Anthem surround processor enabled us to utilise its EQ presets allowing optimal sound quality wherever the clients were to sit within the room. We replaced an old model Crestron control touch panel with an iPad, programmed with a customised Crestron interface that the whole family could use. The 6 year old projector was replaced with a SIM2 3D 1-chip full HD projector for future priority whenever the client is satisfied there is enough 3D content, we can simply upgrade his system with as little time or cost as possible.

The client wanted to pay for a high specification projector that would be excellent quality for now, but would also be 3D compatible at a later date when sufficient content was available. With the Triad speakers and multiple subwoofers we were able to produce sufficient sound levels and high volumes without the room becoming overwhelming. This system was capable of generating an impressive presence that you didn’t so much hear as feel, courtesy of the speakers and multiple subwoofers.

The Installation

The challenge here was not merely to upgrade a system but to incorporate it subtly and cleverly, working in concert with the client’s own interior designer. The system was as neat as it was impressive. As well as the concealed speakers, the system units were built into a wall cavity and hidden from view behind a wall panel. The redesign of the adjoining bar space allowed the look to flow through, incorporating individual reclining double cinema-style seating.

The Challenges

Installation timeframes were crucial as we had a small window of opportunity to install the cinema upgrades and had to liaise with the clients’ interior designers on a regular basis for progress updates during installation.

The Follow Up

The client was completely satisfied with the outcome and was amazed with what we had achieved. Three weeks after the project was completed, a courtesy site meeting was arranged to discuss any issues the client might have had or changes that may have been required. The final system exceeded expectations and the feedback we received from the meeting really was something to be proud of.

What our clients say about us

“As a family we have not used any other TV system in the house, The children can use and navigate the system by themselves. We have invited friends and family over for ‘movie nights’, we are just amazed with what Sensory have achieved.”
